An alcove literally means an arched opening so, with Art Alcove, we aim to create an opening for the city’s community to freely engage with the world of art. Art Alcove is an exceptional endeavour that boosts a mutually beneficial relationship for the space owners as well as the artists. The goal of showing art in an unconventional environment is to easily foster creative interchange. Art Alcove is a dedicated place and location that is furnished with artwork, which is an amalgamation of a variety of materials, methods, and shapes. Thus, it presents a brilliant display opportunity. Through Art Alcove, we come up with exhibition opportunities for the artists and the owners, a possibility of exposure, and exclusivity. Public spaces, restaurants, and retail stores would be utilized to conduct pseudo-exhibits. Artspace Hissa has very aptly challenged the notion of art being confined to museums and walls.

For a city that is known for its rich culture and traditions, there hasn’t been any significant progress when it comes to promoting contemporary visual art. The taboo that art has to be restricted to the art experts and connoisseurs, must come to an end and we believe that this project could play the role of a stepping-stone towards achieving that hopeful goal. And as a part of this initiation, we have recently collaborated with two coffee houses in Surat, to mingle with the younger generation of the city and begin a conversation about art. We also scheduled walkthroughs, where the professional artists and interested individuals interact and discuss the nuances of the artworks displayed. The overwhelming response from these collaborations has only further encouraged us to optimize and extend this idea.
Art Alcove is proposed primarily to establish a relationship between the community and the visual arts. The artwork display will be placed with supportive pieces to create an engaging visual. A curated art display at businesses or service outlets would highlight their aesthetic sensibilities and appreciation for art. In addition to improving the visitor experience, we want to redesign the relationship between art and its audience. It presents an exhibition opportunity for the artists and for the space owners with the possibility of space appraisal and exclusivity. Hissa has made sincere attempts to challenge and outlive the archaic and restrictive forms of art by including younger minds for generating fresh ideas and tapping into new avenues.
